Life Care Ministry Retreat PDF Print E-mail

Life Care Ministry RetreatOn Saturday, January 31st, 2015, members of the St. Anne-St.Patrick Parish Life Care Ministry participated in a unique retreat opportunity. The retreat theme, “Until Jesus is Formed in Us,” was the focus of the entire day.  The participants, all members of the Life Care Ministry, are Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist who serve the shut-ins, sick and elderly in the Sturbridge area.

Held at the Old English Road residence of the Assumptionists, the retreat was conducted by Father Joseph Zhang,A.A., Deacon Keith Caplette and Patty Haggerty. The presentations for the day focused on the “bread of life discourse” and several documents from Vatican II dealing with the liturgy, the Eucharist and the lay apostolate.

The Assumptionist shrine in Quebec City

At the beginning of this year, the Assumptionist shrine in Quebec City (Montmartre canadien) launched a new website to promote its various activities: http://www.lemontmartre.ca/culture-et-foi.

Montmarte canadien, as the new site explains, is a place to encounter Christ through prayer, listening to the Word of God, reflection, and fellowship. The center is run by the Assumptionists and their lay collaborators. It seeks to reach those individuals, especially the young, who wish to deepen their faith or return to the Christian faith by joining a Christian community that focuses three areas:

Being the Year of Consecrated Life, the Assumptionist Center will be hosting three conversations this Spring semester around the distinct forms and traditions of consecrated life in the Catholic Church.

At this conversation, we will focus on the apostolic community life.
We are delighted to have Bro. Gary Davis, a Brother of Hope, and Sr. Palepa Ioane, a Marist Missionary Sister, share their reflection on the significance of the apostolic community life for today’s world.

As the Church begins to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life, the Assumptionist Center in Brighton has begun hosting three Sunday “Conversations… this semester around the distinct forms and traditions of consecrated life in the Catholic Church.

At our first session, which focused on the cloistered contemplative tradition, the community, residents and guests welcomed two Poor Clare nuns who shared what is means to them to be contemplatives in today’s world.

First Cameroonian Assumptionist Ordained PDF Print E-mail

Fr. Serge Patrick Mabou Simo, A.A.(On the occasion of his ordination to the priesthood this past December in Sokode, Togo, we conducted an interview with him.)

- Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

- My name is Serge Patrick Mabou Simo and I am Cameroonian, from the diocese of Bafoussam in the district of West-Cameroon. I am the youngest in my family, the "Benjamin." After completing my novitiate and my philosophy in the Congo (DRC) and my theology in Nairobi, I came here to Sokode where I was ordained a deacon in June, 2013 and worked mostly with young people both at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and at St. Augustine Youth Center both of which are run by the Assumptionists in the city.
