Driven by our love for Jesus Christ and in response to the needs of the time, we, the Assumptionists of the North American Province, have discerned a call of the Spirit to found a community completely dedicated to the material and spiritual care of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico Border.
We animate St. Francis Xavier Parish in El Paso, TX, the center from which all of our apostolic activities flow. The exact character of our ministry to migrants is still being discerned, though the process of renewing the parish, which primarily serves migrants and first-generation Americans, in and of itself is a major apostolic endeavor that directly serves the poor and marginalized. Additionally, our presence at the parish has allowed us to collaborate with passionate lay people in the spirit of our founder, Venerable Emmanuel d'Alzon, who envisioned the Assumption as a family of religious and lay people, working together for the coming of the Kingdom.

In an earlier El Paso Edition of the e-newsletter, we shared with you our efforts to establish a temporary shelter for migrants. As we mentioned in April, our hope was to create a place of dignity, welcome and safety for those who have endured so much on their journey to the United States. Today we can make an official announcement that the Assumptionist Shelter for Migrants is ready for use. Current regulations mean we are on standby yet ready to welcome migrants at a moment’s notice.
