As migrants cross the bridge from Mexico into El Paso, TX, they can see the steeple of our church, just steps away. Our presence along the U.S./Mexico Border allows us to be bearers of God's love and consolation to migrants who are in dire need of support. We are humbled by this immense responsibility and are grateful for you, our friends in the Assumption Family, for taking this journey with us. Today we would like to share with you our vision for the future:
As a response to the immense needs of the people around us, we plan to establish a shrine on the campus of St. Francis Xavier Parish for the purpose of providing spiritual and material support to migrants and the poor. While the exact plan is still unfolding, we wanted to share this news with you as soon as we could.
Much work lies ahead of us, but we are confident that we are moving in a direction inspired by the Holy Spirit and are embarking on an apostolic project very much in line with our mission as Assumptionists “to go wherever God is threatened in man and man threatened as the image of God.”
We wish to make this a project characterized by a deep cooperation with our passionate lay friends in the spirit of our founder, Venerable Emmanuel d’Alzon, who envisioned the Assumption as a family of religious and lay people, working together for the coming of the Kingdom.
Please know that we will continue to provide updates on this project and ways to get involved. We ask you to keep us in your prayers, as you are in ours daily. We entrust all of our efforts to the heavenly patron of our Congregation, Our Lady of the Assumption.
