Six teachers from the International Language School in Manila are presently participating in the newly established Assumption College TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate Program. This new effort is the result of the collaboration between the College and our Assumptionist delegation in the Philippines.
This two session program, which runs through June 14th, will also include a weekly morning practicum at St. Peter’s Parish’s ESL program in Worcester, MA during the second session.
The promotion materials clearly explain that the purpose and design of this program is to prepare and assist new and in-service teachers in their teaching and leadership responsibilities within an English language teaching setting. While the focus of the program is the acquisition and improvement of practically-based, classroom teaching skills, other elements are included, such as language and linguistic theory, program management, cross-cultural issues and the integration of new language technologies.
It is also intended that recipients of the Assumption College TESOL Certificate will be well-prepared to teach and manage in the various areas of TESOL around the globe.
