Assumptionists Open Christian Youth Hostel in the Center of Paris PDF Print E-mail

Christian Youth Hostel in the Center of ParisOn June the 1, 2010, the Assumptionists opened a Christian Youth Hostel in the heart of Paris. The idea is to create a point of contact between young people and Christ, the Gospel and faith. Offering all the necessary amenities at a vbery reasonable price, the Hostel, called "Adveniat", aims at presenting to its guests a face of faith which is contemporary and at ease with modern society: yes, one can place Christ at the center of one's life and be at ease in the modern world!

 To achieve its goal, the Adveniat Youth Hostel offers a variety of options to its guests :

  • they are invited to join the prayer of the local Assumptionist community that lives on the premises of the Hostel. A beautiful chapel has been built with the help of contemporary  artists. It is always open and available to our guests.
  • every evening, two or three staff members are available in the lobby, just to talk and exchange with guests. We are able to make that option available thanks to other religious orders or other Christian churches (we want our work to be ecumenical) who have accepted to partner with us in making of the Youth Hostel a place where the quality of the welcome is exceptional.
  • our guests can also choose to be accompanied by an Adveniat volunteer in visiting the historical churches of Paris (Notre-Dame, Montmartre, ...), or to follow our recommendations to help them discover aspects of Paris less known by tourists;
  • we also suggest to our guests going to attend youth meetings in Paris: Bible or prayer groups, campus ministry groups. These are a good opportunity to meet young people living in Paris.
  • for those guests who are less involved in thes aspects of the faith, we suggest spending a few hours during their stay to volunteer in soup kitchens;
  • finally, a network of friends connected to the Adveniat Youth Hostel allows us to offer our guests the possibility of sharing a meal with a French family: again, this is an opportunity to meet local French families, to discuss and exchange.

Tha Hostel offers a capacity of 73 beds in a combination of single rooms, doubles, triples, as well as 4 bed  and 6 bed options. All have their own bathroom.

The first months of operation have proved to be a challenge: so many things had to be started from scratch! But occupancy rates are rising and most guests seem very pleased with their stay with us. Some do choose to stay with us because we are Christian. Some discover it upon arrival. Some are indeed responding to the many options we offer.

In addition to the Youth Hostel, the Assumptionist community at Adveniat also runs a residency program for 12 students who can rent a room for one school year. We also have a long term volunteer program where young people are invited to share the life of the community for at least 3 months while working in the Hostel. We have also set aside 3 bedrooms in the religious community for young people who would want to share for one year the life of the brothers while studying or working, with the goal of thinking seriously about what they will be doing with their life. Finally, we invite young people living in Paris to join in short term volunteering. The Adveniat Youth Hostel wants to be at the heart of a whirlwind of young people's lives and to offer something to each one of them!
