Assumption College was the site of the annual Assumptionist retreat, August 8th
through August 14th, for the U.S. Region of the congregation. Directed by Fr.
Richard Lamoureux, A.A., Superior General, the theme "A Path of Holiness...in
the footsteps of Emmanuel d'Alzon" was developed through reflecting principally
on the letters of Fr. d'Alzon and correlated with appropriate scriptural
texts.
Focusing on a different aspect of Fr. d'Alzon's life each day, Fr.
Lamoureux reflectively chronicled the spiritual and ministerial growth of the
congregation's founder, as a passionate man of God, patiently waiting for the
direction of the Spirit, as he courageously sought to serve the Church he loved
at a most painful and chaotic time in her history. The daily reflections
included Fr. d'Alzon's initial call to follow Christ, his love for the Church,
the challenges of community and mission, the failures encountered in ministry,
and the overriding sense of hope and vision for the future of his community, the
Church and society. Truly Fr. d'Alzon , as a man of prayer and action, is an
inspiration for all Catholic Christians today!
