ASSUMPTION COLLEGE

Dear members of the Assumption College family,

We are all still in disbelief after the events at the Marathon on Monday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. In true Assumption fashion, the community came together to support one another and those in our community who were personally affected by this senseless tragedy. Sadly, one of our staff members has a daughter who was a spectator who was seriously injured, and a graduate student, whose father works here, who was treated and released the next day.

Immediately, we planned a Mass and prayer service on Tuesday to help demonstrate our concern, and to enable us to join together as a faith community to pray for all those affected and to pray for peace.

AMBITIOUS PROJECT IN THE HINTERLANDS OF MADAGASCAR PDF Print E-mail

Fr. Michel Jary, A.A., Vice-provincial of MadagascarPROVIDING AN EDUCATION TO THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN ONE VILLAGE AT A TIME

Sixty years ago, in 1953, the Assumptionists arrived in Madagascar, the almost forgotten island off the southeast coast of the African continent. The southern end of the island was administered by the Vincentians but covered an immense territory that they were only too willing to share. They retained the eastern half of this territory while the newly arrived Assumptionists assumed responsibility for the western half, with its main urban center Tuléar, in Malagasy Toliara. The head of the Assumptionist mission, Fr. Michel Canonne, was to become the first bishop of the newly erected diocese in 1959.
