THE NOVICES CLIMB A MOUNTAINBy Bro. Eddy Gonzalez, A.A

On September 19, 2012 we had our first novice outing. It was a wonderful experience; we went hiking to Mount Monadnock. This outing was a blessing in many ways; it gave us the opportunity to know more of each one. Besides that we also were praying as a community and enjoying the landscaping. The day was beautiful and clear skies that offered us the opportunity to appreciate even better the beauty of nature. Our station was a cabin not far away of this Mount Monadnock, it was the perfect location because everything was central and we also had the opportunity to enjoy our culinary skills and cook breakfast. Everybody was really in he mood to cooperate and keep everything in its place.

We also had the opportunity to jump into the water; the cabin was next to a lake. The water was really cold but it was not an obstacle for us in order to enjoy it. The funny part of this trip was that we were supposed to have our Mass in a little chapel located in the same lot where the cabin was. Everything was ready when the person in charge of liturgy noticed that he forgot the Hosts. So we ended up not having Mass that morning but until that evening when we got back at Assumption College.

Before we headed back to Worcester, we had the opportunity to visit Keene, N.H. a little town where Father Donat Lamothe was born. Was really fun to visit this typical New England little town. We are really eager to have our next trip. The destination is not known yet, but we are sure that will be a nice experience.

A reflection by Bro Ryan Carlsen, A.A.

We were very much looking forward to hiking up Mount Monadnock, especially in early Autumn.  So after an early-morning Mass (6am) and a quick breakfast, we loaded up a couple cars with food and other essentials for two days.  Although we set out in the rain, by the time we arrived at Camp Joy, run by the Presentation Sisters, near the mountain, the weather had broken and it was a beautiful clear day, slightly cool, perfect for hiking.  We set out at a brisk pace, and all enjoyed the company and the views, which were quite nice.  We paused near the top of the mountain to take some pictures and make a big lunch, as much to satisfy hunger as to lighten the packs.  Then we hiked back down and met up at the cars.  It was a great outing.
