As Lent approached, Fr. Peter Precourt, our Pastor, informed us of the request to support a new Assumptionist parish in Uganda.
As coordinator of our religious education program at St. Anne and St. Patrick Parish, I suggested that the children in our program take on the challenge of raising money to help as part of their almsgiving during Lent.
Teachers shared the information about Uganda and pictures obtained by Fr. Sal, with the children in their classes.
In addition to our almsgiving, we decided to have a Bake Sale for Uganda.
Parents and other parishioners provided all the wonderful baked goods and children eagerly took turns selling them after all our weekend Masses on March 17-18.
Our Bake Sale for Uganda and the children's Lenten offering boxes raised a total of $2,408 which will help put a roof on St. Augustine Church.
Although we are many miles apart, the children’s efforts and sacrifice have made them partners for God’s Kingdom with Fr. Pierre Kisangani and Fr. Gilbert Maghesse in their new mission in Uganda.
