In the presence of the Mayor, Jorge Venegas, regional and Church authorities, the new gymnasium of Manuel d’Alzon High School in Lota was official inaugurated.
It was in the context of the Bicentennial projected adopted in 2010 to improve the institution’s infrastructure that it was decided to foresee a gymnasium that could house a variety of sporting, recreational and cultural activities. he project also included the construction of Learning Resources Center, the construction and organization of a language and mathematics laboratory, and the equipping of classrooms with digital blackboards and multimedia projectors.
The improvement entailed a cost of 417 million pesos (875,700 US dollars), of which 301 million (or 632,100 US dollars) were provided by the Ministry of Education and 116 million (or 243,600 US dollars), by the institution itself.
On this occasion, awards were given to students that had distinguished themselves in different areas, like gymnastics, Tae-Kwando, basketball, and rugby among others. Among those given awards were the athletes Paulina Burgos and Javiera Gatica, who heightened the reputation of the commune in the areas in which they competed.
The new gymnasium was blessed by Father Pedro Ossandón, Auxiliary Bishop of Concepción.
