THE ASSUMPTIONIST CENTER …
a place where we can learn together, a place where, together, we can discover what it means to be Church. In order to help that to happen, we need to think and talk together.
And so, we continue our fourth year of
CONVERSATIONS AT THE CENTER
on SUNDAY, APRIL 1
“PROJECT HOPE where families move up and out of poverty”
“ Project Hope works in partnership with families so they can move up and out of poverty. We do this by: being a catalyst for change in the lives of families and in the systems that keep them poor; developing and providing family support solutions for homelessness and poverty; and advocating for just public policies which strengthen families. We do this in collaboration with a multitude of organizations which support these goals . “
Sister Margaret Leonard, LSA (of the Little Sisters of the Assumption) has been he Executive Director of Project Hope since 1985 serving families in the North Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods. In 1996 she was interviewed for America magazine … and in 2009 appeared on the Today Show and Good Morning, America. In 2000, she was awarded the Isaac Hecker Award (joining the company of such former recipients as Dorothy Day, Bishop Thomas Gumbleton and Sister Helen Prejean). She has received Honorary Degrees from Assumption College (2008) as well as UMass Boston and Tufts University (2009). We are honored to welcome our sister in the Assumption family who is described by Peter Karoff in his book (The World We Want) as “ … what might be called a piece of work.”
Remember that we will celebrate Palm Sunday Eucharist together at 11:00, followed by food, drinks and discussion. It would be helpful if you could let us know if you’ll be joining us.
