PENITENTIAL ACT
Brothers and sisters,
let us acknowledge our sins.

A brief pause for silence follows. Then all recite together the formula of general confession:

 I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray.

O God, who by the mystery of today’s great feast
sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation,
pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit
across the face of the earth
and, with the divine grace that was at work
when the Gospel was first proclaimed,
fill now once more the hearts of believers.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL
That the Holy Spirit might fill our anointed pastors with wisdom and courage in these uncertain days.
We pray to the Lord.

That the faithful, caught in anxiety and uncertainty like those first disciples in the Cenacle, might find strength and comfort in the enduring presence of the Spirit.
We pray to the Lord.

For all those who expected to embark on new ventures this spring, that they might be filled with hope, purpose and patience.
We pray to the Lord.
Lord, hear our prayer.

That the Spirit may be an anointing of comfort to the grieving, healing to the sick, calm to the anxious, forgiveness to sinners, and refreshment to us all on our pilgrim way.
We pray to the Lord.

That the faithful departed might be brought into the fullness of the divine Presence.
We pray to the Lord.
Lord, hear our prayer.

LORD’S PRAYER
At the Savior’s command
and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

CLOSING PRAYER
Let us pray.

O God, who bestow heavenly gifts upon your Church,
safeguard, we pray, the grace you have given,
that the gift of the Holy Spirit poured out upon her
may retain all its force
and that this spiritual food
may gain her abundance of eternal redemption.

DIOCESAN PRAYER IN TIME OF PANDEMIC
O God,
whose Only Begotten Son
bore the weight of human suffering for our salvation,
hear the prayers of your Church
for our sick brothers and sisters
and deliver us from this time of trial.
Open our ears and our hearts to the voice of your Son:
Be not afraid, for I am with you always.

Bless all doctors and nurses, researchers and public servants;
give us the wisdom to do what is right
and the faith to endure this hour,
that we might gather once again to praise your name
in the heart of your Church,
delivered from all distress and confident in your mercy.
