PENITENTIAL ACT
Brothers and sisters,
let us acknowledge our sins.

A brief pause for silence follows. Then all recite together the formula of general confession:

 I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray.

May the power of the Holy Spirit
come to us, we pray, O Lord,
that we may keep your will faithfully in mind
and express it in a devout way of life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL
For our bishops, priests and deacons, that in their struggles, they might take courage from the power of Christ who conquered the world.
We pray to the Lord.
Lord, hear our prayer.

For all those in government service, that they might be strong in working for life, justice and peace.
We pray to the Lord.
Lord, hear our prayer.

That the signs of spring and new life around us might fill us with hope.
We pray to the Lord.
Lord, hear our prayer.

For the poor, the abandoned, the sick and dying, that they may know the consoling presence of the Holy Spirit.

For the faithful departed, that the fiery Spirit of divine love may soon purify them and make them fit for the kingdom of love which is heaven.

LORD’S PRAYER
At the Savior’s command
and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

CLOSING PRAYER
Let us pray.

Graciously be present to your people,
we pray, O Lord,
and lead those you have imbued with heavenly mysteries
to pass from former ways to newness of life.

DIOCESAN PRAYER IN TIME OF PANDEMIC
O God,
whose Only Begotten Son
bore the weight of human suffering for our salvation,
hear the prayers of your Church
for our sick brothers and sisters
and deliver us from this time of trial.
Open our ears and our hearts to the voice of your Son:
Be not afraid, for I am with you always.

Bless all doctors and nurses, researchers and public servants;
give us the wisdom to do what is right
and the faith to endure this hour,
that we might gather once again to praise your name
in the heart of your Church,
delivered from all distress and confident in your mercy.
