2020 SPRING BREAK TRIP TO NIMES, FRANCE

We are organizing a new trip for 15 – 20 students (open to all students) to go to Nimes, France during Spring Break 2020 and hosted by an Assumptionist institution called Institut D'Alzon in Nimes.

It is a Catholic institution offering primary, secondary, and vocational education as well as what we call in France post-high school exam preparatory classes to take entrance examinations to higher-ed. engineering and business schools. The Institut has several campus facilities in and around Nimes including an agricultural and equestrian school.

Here is a preliminary outline of the program (subject to change):

March 6 - 7: Departure on March 6 from Boston to Marseilles (one-stop flight) with arrival in Marseilles on March 7 and arrival in Nimes.

March 7 - March 15: Room (double-occupancy) and Board (Breakfast & Dinner) provided at Maison Diocesaine in Nimes. Lunch included in cost for the trip will be on our own and depend on daily activities.

March 8 – Free Day to visit Roman ruins in Nimes (Roman World Museum, Coliseum, Maison Carree, etc.)

March 9 - 10: Theme for the first two days is "Walking in the Footsteps of Father D'Alzon" with the help of the Oblate Sisters in Nimes. It would include going to the birthplace of Father D'Alzon (about 40 minutes from Nimes), visiting his family’s castle, the chapel where he is buried, and a small museum created recently to celebrate his life.

March 11 - 12: With the assistance of the Institut d’Alzon’s leadership team, we will visit a number of high-tech companies on the first day, and local agricultural companies (An olive-oil producer and a wine grower).

March 13 - 14: These two days will be reserved for visits to major tourist sites near Nimes namely le Pont du Gard (a Roman aquaduct), Arles (another Roman city), Avignon (the French Papal City where popes resided away from Rome during 70 years, and the middle-age city of Aigues-Mortes with ramparts (It is where King Saint-Louis departed for the two crusades he led).

March 15: Return to Marseilles and return flight to Boston (Arrival in Boston on same day.)

Estimated costs for the trip are $1,800.00 covering roundtrip airfare, local transportation, room and board, and site visits. An initial $500.00 deposit is required by Dec. 1, 2019 to reserve a spot. A second deposit of $500.00 will be required by Jan. 15, 2020. Remaining deposit of $800.00 will be due by Feb. 15, 2020.
