Father Richard Lamoureux, A.A., Appointed Vice President for Mission

Assumption College has announced the appointment of Father Richard Lamoureux, A.A., Ph.D., as its Vice President for Mission, effective October 1. In this role, Fr. Lamoureux will ensure that the core mission of Assumption College as a Catholic and Assumptionist institution is integrated within all aspects of campus life at the institution. He will continue to advance, and strengthen, the College’s Assumptionist and Catholic identity through collaboration with faculty, students and staff, as well as oversee Campus Ministry.

Fr. Lamoureux’s appointment follows the departure of former Vice President for Mission Father Dennis Gallagher, A.A.—who served in the position since 2000—who is now the Provincial of the North American Province of the Augustinians of the Assumption.

For nearly 50 years, Fr. Lamoureux has served the Assumption College community in a number of positons including as a teaching assistant; assistant professor; chair of the Department of Fine Arts; associate dean of Academic Affairs; provost; vice president for Academic Affairs; dean of faculty; campus minister; and director of worship. Since 2011, he has served as a member of the College’s Board of Trustees, a position he also held from 1984 to 1990.

“For five decades, Father Lamoureux has committed himself to serving the College through his tireless support of its Catholic and Assumptionist identity and the intellectual development of our students,” said Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D., President of Assumption College. “His contributions to the College have been invaluable, and I am confident that in this new position, Father Lamoureux will employ his vast knowledge, experience, and compassion to furthering the mission of the College and deepening the spiritual commitment of the Assumption community.”

Ordained to the priesthood in March 1971, he has served the Augustinians of the Assumption as provincial superior of the Assumptionists in North America; Superior General of the Congregation; and Master of Novices and more recently as responsible for formation in the North American Province of the Assumptionists.

Fr. Lamoureux earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Assumption; a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome; a Master of Divinity from Boston College; a Master of Arts in Art History; and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. Fr. Lamoureux, a graduate of Assumption Prep, is also among a select group of individuals who have been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Assumption.

He is the author of a number of books, articles, and papers, and has lectured on topics such as the teachings of the Venerable Father Emmanuel d’Alzon and Renaissance art and architecture, specifically that of Leon Battista Alberti, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo.
