Each summer, thousands of young pilgrims descend on the little town of Taize in France to spend time in service, prayer, and reflection on the Bible with the monks of this unique community. Founded after World War II as an effort toward reconciliation in post-war Europe, the Taize community has become known and beloved around the world for its outreach to young people, its spirit of ecumenism, and its beautifully simple and deeply reflective prayer and music. Two of the brothers from Taize, Brother John and Brother Emile, will spend the Friday after Easter at Assumption College and will participate in the following events:
Lunch Gathering with Clergy and Other Pastoral Ministers: 12-2 PM, Tinsley Campus Ministry Center. The brothers will speak about the Taize community’s work with young people and ecumenism. A light lunch will be served. Space is limited; please RSVP by March 27 to pf.covino@assumption.edu.
Dinner with Young Adults: 4:30-6:30 PM, Tinsley Campus Ministry Center. The brothers will lead a Taize style biblical reflection for college students and other young adults age 16-30. A simple supper will be served. Space is limited; please RSVP by March 27 to pf.covino@assumption.edu.
Presentation and Prayer: 7:00 PM, starting in the Atrium of the Testa Science Center. The brothers will offer an introduction to Taize and its popular summer pilgrimages with young people. A candlelight procession will follow to the Chapel of the Holy Spirit where prayer in the style of the Taize community will be celebrated, including music, scripture, silence and prayer around the cross. The evening events are open to the public, and no RSVP is necessary.
