According to our "Rule of Life", the Superior General must visit every community in the Congregation at least once during his mandate. Fr. Benoit Grière is our current Superior General having been elected during the General Chapter of 2011. He made the Visitation to the US Territory this past May and to the Brighton Community in the week of May 12.
Fr. Benoit met with each member of the community separately then gathered the community for an evening of sharing. While he was here, we made sure he visited Harvard, MIT, BC, the STM.
Fr. Benoit is a gentle man, a good listener, open to diverse experiences. He was eager to learn about our mission here and the service we try to render to the Church of the future by offering hospitality to young men preparing their careers.
In his remarks to the community, Fr. Benoit noted our fidelity to common prayer and common meals. He was happy to witness the good humor and camaraderie at table. He wondered, however, if we might need to take time for more in depth sharing.
Members of the Alliance joined the community for Evening Prayer and dinner. They met with Fr. Benoit after dinner for a brief Q & A session. He was delighted to see the Alliance taking root here and encouraged us to pursue this important way of living our Baptismal promises in the light of the charism and spirituality of Fr. d'Alzon.
All in all, this was a pleasant and inspiring visit.
