CONVERSATIONS AT THE CENTER – “Student Life in God’s Plan” PDF Print E-mail

Stephanie McCaffreyOn Sunday, March 18th, the Assumptionist Center focused on the theme, “Student Life in God’s Plan.” The presenter for the morning was Stephanie McCaffrey, Associate Director of Campus Ministry at Assumption College. An M. Div. graduate from Weston Jesuit School of Theology, Stephanie’s responsibilities include directing Assumption’s retreat program and works closely with campus ministry’s student leaders. She also advises Advocates for Life and serves as chaplain to the Women’s Swim Team.

In her presentation, Stephanie elaborated on the reasons why young men and women come to college based on her experience at Assumption. For some it is simple the next step after high school, for others it is for the purpose of seeking the ‘college experience,’ for others it is the further education needed for a specific job or career, especially for international students and for some simply for the sake of study.

SPENCER - For 20 years there were sweet notes to parents, coupons for a free lunch and birthday cards for the thousands of students who passed through his classroom.

But when students at David Prouty High School returned Wednesday after a snow day, word began to spread a beloved teacher, Philip Delongchamp, had died unexpectedly.

“He was the greatest teacher in the district,” former superintendent Ralph Hicks said. “He had a very special way with kids. He could connect with them, even the ones who were tough to reach; he could reach them.”

ASSUMPTIONIST SECRETARY GENERAL, FR. MICHAEL KUBLER, A.A., HONORED AS KNIGHT OF THE FRENCH NATIONAL ORDER OF MERIT PDF Print E-mail

February 2018 - Rome

On February 5 at Villa Bonaparte, the ambassador of France to the Holy See, Philippe Zeller (right in photo), inducted Fr. Michel Kubler, A.A. (center) into the National Order of Merit. For many years Fr. Kubler was editor-in-chief of the Assumptionist daily newspaper, La Croix.

After recalling his Alsatian roots and attachment to his 'homeland', which clearly 'shaped' his personality, Amb. Zeller retraced his university studies and his life as an Assumptionist religious, especially his appointment to La Croix, first at the religion desk (from 1989 to 1997), then as religious editor-in-chief (from 1997 to 2009).

“An important voice of the Church of France”

“During these years, you were an important voice of the Church in France, a spokesman for clear identity,” the ambassador added, acknowledging that La Croix was “a source of pride of our national press.”

He also underlined Fr. Kubler's transfer to Bucharest, Romania, where he served as the director of the St. Peter-St. Andrew Ecumenical Center and as pastor of the French-speaking parish in the capital, thus becoming “an important player of the French presence in Romania and contributing to the spread of French culture”.
