Title Marie-Claire Blais: A Vision of Our Tortured Times Marie-Claire Blais, a leading light in Quebec and Canadian literature, is the author of poetry, plays, and more than twenty novels. Two of her novels have been adapted for cinema. She was named International Woman of the Year by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England in 1995. Blais will read, in English translation, from three of her acclaimed novels: These Festive Nights (1995), Thunder and Light (2001), and Mai at the Predators’ Ball (2010).
